The spirit of a janitor who was murdered seeks revenge by invading the dreams of teenagers whose parents were responsible for his death. The teenagers are killed in their dreams, which also kills them in reality. Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) and her boyfriend Glen (Johnny Depp) investigate the phenomenon and suspect that a dark secret kept by their parents may be the key to solving the mystery.
